Warehouse Relocation system in an industrial warehouse

Warehouse Relocation Services in Chicago, IL

Moving a warehouse is not like moving an office. The rack has to come down safely, every component has to be accounted for, and the new building needs a layout that fits its columns, clear height, and docks before the first truck shows up. Among warehouse moving companies, the storage system itself is usually the piece that gets planned last - and the piece that decides whether your first week in the new building is productive.

Chicagoland sees more of these moves than almost any market in the country. Businesses outgrow older 18 to 24 ft clear buildings in Elk Grove Village, Franklin Park, Addison, or Bedford Park and move into newer 32 to 40 ft clear space along I-55 and I-80 in Joliet, Elwood, Romeoville, and Bolingbrook, or along I-88 in Naperville and Aurora. The rack that fit the old building almost never drops straight into the new one - the taller clear height and different column grid change the layout completely.

Our warehouse relocation service handles the storage side of the move: inventory of your existing rack, CAD layout for the new building, teardown and labeling, transport coordination, reinstallation, and new rack where the new building needs more. Call (312) 815-2445 and tell us your move date.

Warehouse Moves in the Chicago Market

Chicago is the largest rail hub in North America - six of the seven Class I railroads meet here - and the interstate network (I-90, I-94, I-55, I-57, I-80, I-88, I-290, I-294, I-355) puts most of the Midwest within a day's truck drive. That is why so many regional and national distribution centers are here, and why warehouse relocation services stay busy: companies rarely leave the region, they move within it. A typical project is a short hop - Cicero to Bedford Park, Elk Grove Village to a bigger building in the same business park, or an e-commerce operation heading out to Will County's big-box corridor.

Local conditions shape every move. Chicagoland winters are cold and snowy, and many docks and staging areas are unheated, so teardown and reinstall schedules get built around the season and crew productivity in the cold. The region's large cold-storage and freezer sector adds another layer: moving refrigerated racking means planning around temperature-controlled space at both ends. The new layout also has to match pallet weight, usable clear height, and the lift trucks that will work the rows after the move.

A move changes more than the address. A Chicago operation moving to Joliet, Aurora, Naperville, Elk Grove Village, or Bolingbrook may gain height but have a different column grid and dock arrangement. We compare the old rack inventory with the new floor plan, then show where existing beams and frames fit, where added levels make sense, and where new rows are needed. Aisle widths follow your handling equipment, while staging areas leave room for product arriving during the changeover. You can see the position count and installation sequence before dismantling starts.

    How a Warehouse Move Works

    1

    Plan the new building

We lay out the new space in CAD first, so you know which existing rack fits, what needs to change, and what new steel to add before teardown starts.

    2

    Teardown and labeling

Our crews dismantle the existing system, inspect each upright and beam, and label and bundle components by row so nothing gets mixed up.

    3

    Transport coordination

Bundled steel is staged and scheduled for transport around your move, so rack arrives at the new building in the order it will be installed.

    4

    Reinstall and add new

We reinstall to the new layout, anchor and level every frame, add new rack where needed, and tag capacities so you can start receiving.

What Our Warehouse Moving Services Cover

Every warehouse move starts with a free consultation. We inventory what you have now: rack types, manufacturer, quantities, beam capacities, and condition. Then we look at the new building: clear height, column spacing, dock doors, forklift types, and working aisle widths. Photos and floor plans are usually enough to get started.

From there we draw the new layout in CAD and show which existing components carry over, which ones need to be replaced, and what new rack the taller clear height or different column grid calls for. You get an itemized quote for teardown, transport coordination, reinstallation, and any new material, plus a schedule built backward from your move date.

The sequence matters as much as the drawing. We identify which rows can come down first, where bundled steel will wait for loading, and which storage zones need to be ready first at the new address. Forklift access and dock space are checked at both buildings so teardown, transport, and receiving do not compete for the same working area. Your team gets a clear handover plan for each zone.

On the job, our crews tear down the old system, label every bundle by row, and stage it for transport so steel arrives at the new building in the order it will be installed. At the new address we reinstall to the approved drawing, anchor and level every frame, add new rack where needed, and tag capacities so your team can start receiving.

Most warehouse movers handle boxes and equipment. Warehouse relocation companies that understand racking are rarer - the storage system is our whole focus, from the first inventory count to the final capacity tag.
