    Drive-In Rack in Elgin, IL

If your Elgin operation is dealing with a manufacturing floor near Big Timber Road where raw material, work in process, and finished goods all fight for the same square footage, you are not alone. In Elgin, older manufacturing buildings near downtown sit alongside newer I-90 distribution space with very different column grids, and that usually shows up as too many aisles for the number of SKUs you actually carry.

Drive-in rack lets the forklift drive into the lane and store pallets on rails several deep, so large quantities of a few SKUs fit in a fraction of the floor. We work out the storage math for your Elgin footprint first, then hand you a CAD layout and itemized quote before a single beam ships. Call (312) 815-2445 to get started.

Why Elgin Warehouses Work With Us

Elgin is a market where older manufacturing buildings near downtown sit alongside newer I-90 distribution space with very different column grids. Whether your building sits near the Randall Road business parks or closer to the Grand Victoria Casino on the Fox River, the column grid and usable height decide the drive-in rack design, not a catalog drawing.

As a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., we have designed storage for manufacturing and metal fabrication operators across Chicagoland since 1997. For drive-in rack, the fit question is usually lane dimensions drawn around your specific lift truck, and we answer it during a free warehouse consultation before you commit.

Being about 40 minutes away in Westmont, with I-90, Route 20, and Randall Road between us, keeps delivery windows tight and replacement parts on hand. Installation is done by our own crews, and your Elgin layout stays on file for the next expansion.

    How Drive-In Rack Works

No aisles. The forklift enters the structure, and the floor holds more pallets per square foot than any other system.

    1

    Continuous rails, not beams

Pallets rest on rails carried by upright frames rather than individual beam levels, so a lane accepts pallet after pallet at the same elevation.

    2

    The truck enters the lane

The driver travels inside the bay to place or retrieve each load. Lane width, rail height, and mast clearance get dimensioned to that specific truck, not a generic one.

    3

    One open end or two

One open end gives LIFO and the highest density available. Two open ends give FIFO with slightly fewer positions, since each lane now needs clearance from both sides.

    4

    Guarding built into the design

Guide rails, column guards, and rail-end protection are part of the spec from the start, because a lane that takes daily contact from forklifts is a lane that will eventually need repair.

What a Drive-In Rack Project Includes

A Elgin drive-in rack project starts with a phone call or a few photos, not a sales pitch. We go through load size and weight, forklift type and lift height, usable clear height in the storage area, column spacing, and how fast product turns. That free warehouse needs analysis usually takes about fifteen minutes.

The deliverable is a CAD layout and a priced bill of material: positions, elevations, aisle widths, and capacities. Since aisles traded for lanes to push positions per square foot drives the design, we often model the same Elgin footprint two ways so you can weigh density against picking speed with real figures.

Once you approve the layout, steel is scheduled and delivered in drops that fit your dock. Our installation crews build the drive-in rack exactly as drawn, confirm it performs loaded, and tag every bay. The job is phased so your Elgin operation keeps running, and later additions go through the same team.

High volume of a small number of SKUs
Seasonal or buffer inventory held in bulk
Cold storage and freezer rooms where cube matters most
Product too fragile to floor-stack more than two high
Buildings where floor space, not height, is the binding constraint
