Drive-In Pallet Rack Systems in Chicago, IL
A lot of the calls we get from Chicago start the same way: freight stacked in the aisles of an older brick building because the floor was never laid out for modern pallet loads. Underneath that is usually too many aisles for the number of SKUs you actually carry, and it gets worse every month the layout stays the same.
Drive-in rack lets the forklift drive into the lane and store pallets on rails several deep, so large quantities of a few SKUs fit in a fraction of the floor. We size the drive-in rack to your loads, your forklifts, and the clear height you already lease, then send a CAD layout with pallet positions counted and an itemized quote. Call (312) 815-2445 and tell us what you store in Chicago.
Why Chicago Warehouses Work With Us
Warehouses near Pilsen and the Lower West Side and the Clearing district near Midway each come with their own limits: usable height, column spacing, dock count. In Chicago, older multi-story brick buildings with tight column grids and freight elevators sit a few miles from newer single-story boxes with 32-foot clear heights, so we draw every drive-in rack layout to the actual building.
As a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., we have designed storage for food & beverage distribution and third-party logistics operators across Chicagoland since 1997. For drive-in rack, the fit question is usually bulk SKUs held deep while the pick face stays selective, and we answer it during a free warehouse consultation before you commit.
Being about 35 minutes away in Westmont, with I-55, I-90/94, and I-290 between us, keeps delivery windows tight and replacement parts on hand. Installation is done by our own crews, and your Chicago layout stays on file for the next expansion.

Operations We Rack Around Here
Nearby areas we work in regularly include the Kinzie Industrial Corridor, Pilsen and the Lower West Side, the Stevenson corridor, the Clearing district near Midway.
How Drive-In Rack Works
No aisles. The forklift enters the structure, and the floor holds more pallets per square foot than any other system.
Continuous rails, not beams
Pallets rest on rails carried by upright frames rather than individual beam levels, so a lane accepts pallet after pallet at the same elevation.
The truck enters the lane
The driver travels inside the bay to place or retrieve each load. Lane width, rail height, and mast clearance get dimensioned to that specific truck, not a generic one.
One open end or two
One open end gives LIFO and the highest density available. Two open ends give FIFO with slightly fewer positions, since each lane now needs clearance from both sides.
Guarding built into the design
Guide rails, column guards, and rail-end protection are part of the spec from the start, because a lane that takes daily contact from forklifts is a lane that will eventually need repair.
What a Drive-In Rack Project Includes
Before drive-in rack is priced for your Chicago building, we gather the constraints: usable height, column grid, aisle widths your lifts need, SKU count, and the load mix your food & beverage distribution volume actually moves. Most of that comes from one phone conversation.
You get a drive-in rack drawing for your building with every position counted, every level rated, and an itemized price by frame, beam, and accessory. Because this system turns on lane dimensions drawn around your specific lift truck, we usually include an alternative layout on the same plan so you can compare storage against access.
Standard components ship from stock, often inside 48 hours, and delivery is timed to your Chicago receiving hours. Our own crews anchor, plumb, and level every frame, tag capacities, and phase the work by zone so shipping keeps moving. Afterward you keep one local number for parts, added levels, reconfigurations, or a future relocation.
