Push Back Racking in Elgin, Illinois

A manufacturing floor near Big Timber Road where raw material, work in process, and finished goods all fight for the same square footage is one of the most common problems we see in Elgin right now. Look closer and the real issue tends to be medium-turn pallets taking up premium pick positions.

Pushback rack stores two to six pallets deep per lane on nested carts, so one aisle face holds several pallets of the same SKU and the aisles you no longer need go back to storage. Before anything is ordered, your Elgin team gets a drawing, a position count, and a line-item price, so the decision is based on numbers. Call (312) 815-2445 to start a free layout.

Why Elgin Warehouses Work With Us

Warehouses near the I-90 Jane Addams corridor and the Northeast Industrial Park each come with their own limits: usable height, column spacing, dock count. In Elgin, older manufacturing buildings near downtown sit alongside newer I-90 distribution space with very different column grids, so we draw every pushback rack layout to the actual building.

Since 1997 we have supplied manufacturing, metal fabrication, and 3PL operations in and around Elgin. That history means lanes two to six pallets deep served from a single aisle rarely surprises us mid-project, and the first pushback rack layout is usually close to the final one.

Our Westmont warehouse is about 40 minutes from Elgin by way of I-90, Route 20, and Randall Road, so deliveries are short, parts are close, and our own crews do the installation. One contact handles the layout, quote, schedule, and service afterward.

    How Pushback Rack Works

Two to six pallets deep from one aisle, without giving up much reach.

    1

    Loading from the aisle

The driver sets the first pallet on the front cart. Each pallet added after that pushes the cart train deeper into the lane, so one aisle handles the whole depth.

    2

    Carts nested on rails

Steel carts with nylon or steel wheels ride inclined rails, each nesting under the one ahead of it - that nesting is what makes multi-deep storage possible from a single face.

    3

    Retrieval by gravity

Pull the front pallet and the next cart rolls forward on the incline to the pick face. No driving into the lane, no repositioning pallets by hand.

    4

    Last in, first out

Each lane runs LIFO. That suits fast-turning product and any operation managing rotation by lane rather than by individual pallet date.

What a Pushback Rack Project Includes

Every pushback rack project in Elgin begins with the numbers: what you store, how heavy it is, what lifts it, and how tall the usable space is. We collect those during a free warehouse consultation by phone, along with a floor plan or a few photos if you have them.

Our design team then builds a CAD layout showing pallet positions, level elevations, and aisle widths, with load ratings for each level noted on the drawing. The quote is itemized by component, so you see cost per position instead of a lump sum. Where it helps, we price a second option on the same floor plan, with fewer aisles maintained for the same forklift fleet, so the tradeoff is a number instead of an opinion.

Common pushback rack parts move from our Westmont stock within days. Our crews install to the approved drawing, anchor every frame, and work around your shifts so metal fabrication production does not stop. Your layout stays on file, so adding a bay next year or replacing a damaged upright starts from where the system already is.
